Description

Updated~

Without armour: [link]

Just a note: If you ever want to or have to (Idk why though) draw Minkah, you are free to simplify his markings and outfit however you want, just make it recognisable as this little tom~

Name: Minkah (Mink-ah)
Gender: Male
Age: 3.5 years old
Rank: Head Hunter
Breed: Bengal mix
Accessories:
:bulletblack: He always wears his hat, usually his deep brown one as shown but sometimes he'll switch to his white one for a change.
:bulletblack: Minkah never goes hunting without his armour, because it has saved his life more times then a cat has lives. However he'll most likely not wear it when off duty, due to the attention it receives and the heat it attracts.
:bulletblack: The white ribbon on his tail is there for two reasons. One, it's a good signal to wave at other cats when planning a hunt or signalling to move/attack. Secondly it's also the only remnant of his family.
:bulletblack: Minkah has a powerful weapon (which I will draw later) which he only brings out when hunting bigger animals such as antelope, ostriches and crocodiles. Otherwise he sticks to his claws and fangs.

Personality:

In general:

[Good-natured][Manipulative][Controlling][Sleepy][Smart][Serious]

Minkah is a good-natured tom to most cats. Never too harsh, but then again never too friendly. The striped tom doesn't think about ranks too much, and while he would never think it an issue if he made friends with a slave, he does realise the consequences of it. However if a cat who is a lower rank does anger him, he will not hesitate to use his position against them.
With his hunters, he considers them friends and equals, and knows very well that he can't hunt alone. However he firmly thinks that being the Head hunter, the other hunters should follow his order without reason.

Off duty the tom will sleep. He's a very heavy sleeper, but usually he doesn't get that grumpy if woken up. Unless he hasn't had enough sleep. Despite hunting being very active, his other love is sleep and if you take away either you'll have quite a grumpy tom on your paws. It'll usually be past midday when this tom rises, otherwise he has had a bad night sleeping, considering the tom usually stays up very late at night.

If seen around town, he's either selling off his prey, bones, skin, meat, feathers, he has a lot to sell to various cats. Being Head hunter, he has to sell most of it and split it between all the cats in his hunting party, so he won't be spending much of it on himself. He'll usually hunt a little extra to give to cats such as shop keepers or important cats to keep him in their favour or to ask them for favours in the future. He's very tactical with every decision he makes, even if he looks like all brawn and no brains.

At work:
[Professional][Skilled][Protective][Rash][Controlling][Harsh]

Minkah is a pure professional at his work. He aims for clean kills and to keep as much of the animal in tact so that every part of their prey is usable. While he thinks of profit half the time, if ever during the hunt he ever sees another cat in danger, he will try his best to protect and pull the cat away.

That being said, he can and will take risks if they think they are worth it. If it was a choice between getting a -not seriously- injured cat to a doctor and letting an almost defeated prey get away, then he'll go for the prey first if he thinks he can do both. Usually his gut instinct pulls through but there has been one or two slip ups due to his rash decisions, one consequence being the death of a fellow hunter.

One big no-no with this tom is talking back to him after a direct order. Unless taken in a polite and reasoned manner, Minkah will not hesitate to punish a hunter or any low ranked cat that feels that they can bite back at his words. It can stretch from being forced to stay behind for a hunting trip or to as far as being knocked around the ears, though with claws sheathed.

While usually fair tempered, and after a good haul, good natured during the hunt and kill he is a different tom. Maybe it's his foreign genes or the instincts that every cat is gifted with, but a spark ignites in the tom when the adrenaline of a chase affects him. He likes everything to work in perfect order, for every cat to play their part, and though silently, will curse any cat which messes up his game. While forgiving, he does not tolerate failure.

Brief backstory:

Short version for lazy mofos:

Minkah's father is the son of a foreign cat. Minkah had a bff called Sudi. When his father wanted to return to the foreign lands, Minkah stayed behind so as to be a hunter with his bff. He and his sister who also stayed behind lived with Sudi and his parents for a long time until the spot of head hunter was mentioned to be open. Sudi and Minkah had a fight, causing Minkah to be kicked out the house. In a later hunting trip Minkah tries to fight an antelope by himself instead of protecting Sudi as he is still angry and ends up getting concussion and the guilt of his friend's death. He now lives in Sudi's old house with his sister.

Minkah's back story started a long time ago, when his grandfather first moved to the lands of Scha-em-tenu, with a few other foreign cats. His grandfather was a powerful Bengal tom, who after not to long, was able to get himself a job as part of the soldiers, thanks to his unusual looks and brute strength. Here he was quite successful, and after choosing a beautiful mate from the few cats that had travelled with him here to the desert, he had a few litters of kits, including Minkah's father.

Minkah's father tried to follow his father's profession, but he ended up as a hunter, as he found the idea of using brute strength against other cats indecent and demoralising. Minkah's father did well as a hunter but found after having his first litter of kits with a fairly dark coloured she-cat, that he couldn't stand the ways that this tyrannical society worked. However, by the time the father had decided to do anything, Minkah and his siblings had already began their training in professions. Minkah's father had decided that they should return home, to the foreign country where it was sure to be better than this place. He knew he could hunt and support his family on their journey, and most of them were supportive of the idea. Most but not all.

During Minkah's time as a kit, unlike most who would only stay with their litter-mates, the small Bengal mixed tom had found himself a friend. This friend was his cousin, a kit from a kit from the same grandfather who had first come here, but for as much as Minkah cared he could have been a mutt because those two were the best of friends. Sudi and Minkah. The ultimate pair. They played and fought everyday, laughing with the innocence that all kits have at that age. They both agreed to be friends forever and to do everything together. Like we all know though, it was hardly going to last.

As promised, they both became hunters, and really enjoyed their training together. They got each-other's backs and helped each in times of need. The pair was inseparable. Which is why when Minkah's father suggested about leaving to go back to the foreign lands, the young striped tom was less then happy. The idea of leaving his best friend was an impossible concept to the young tom, so when it came to leaving day, the young speckled tom found himself watching his family walk away over the dunes, while he stayed firmly in the city's borders with his sister who decided to stay with him. And also spending the next year and a half with his best buddy. Fortunately for him, Sudi and his family was staying firmly in the city. Life couldn't be better for Minkah, being with his best friend and despite the sadness of knowing he would most likely never see his family again, Sudi's family was kind and treated him like a second son.

The pair both surpassed with flying colours as hunters, and soon became the reliable pair that everyone could trust to bring the prey in. Whether it was antelopes or Ostriches, Sudi and Minkah could handle it in their harmonious combo of claws. Of course they didn't work alone, but most let them work in their pair and just supported them.

Which is why the death of Sudi was such a blow to Minkah. All friends had their fights. It was hard not to. Just somehow, the two knew how to avoid it in most situations, they would stay quiet and in a few hours they would just talk about something else. Which is why Minkah didn't expect it. Earlier the head hunter had announced that he was stepping down, being too old to run and keep up with younger cats. This is what started the wedge between the two toms, as while they didn't work in competition, both liked the idea of being able to lead the hunts and taking charge.

In one of the last hunting trips with the head hunter, they accidentally tripped up over each other and lost their catch which was a young antelope that had been worn down quite a bit. On usual terms they would of laughed about it, joked and made up for it, but Sudi snapped at Minkah that it was his fault and that they could never hope to be good hunters if they acted like foolish kits. The Bengal mix was deeply offended by this and growled back, and before any other cat could break them up, the two had drawn blood from each other, all the irritations and stress that had built up subconsciously having exploded from both of them at that moment.

The head hunter forced both of them to go home, which wasn't possible with Minkah living in the same hut as Sudi, so he had to rough it out for the next few freezing nights, steadily growing in his hatred of his once closest friend. Sudi however felt terrible after the second night, the idea of Minkah sleeping alone outside.. the fact that he had started the fight himself.., but couldn't seem to find Minkah until their next hunting trip. The Bengal mixed ignored him however and focused on the trip. Sudi found that without Minkah he had little idea of what he was doing, and the striped tom most likely felt the same, as both were meant to lead the hunt as usual, they found their attacks failing and overall messed up most of the trip.

They had one last chance to prove themselves as they found a young buck separated by the charge of the herd. The whole group surrounded the buck, using their tactics to try and take it down. However as it was cornered, the young antelope, while lean but hugely muscled, unexpectedly shot forward towards Sudi, thinking it could make a break for it. Minkah was closest, and his first instinct was to pin Sudi down so they could both avoid serious injury from the charging beast as it leapt over them, which would let it get away as well but safety was important. However the anger and hatred he had built up the past few nights made him turn his head back towards the beast.

I can take it. I am the better one. I will be the head hunter. He thought silently, and leapt towards the panicking prey. His claws made contact with it neck and he caused it to veer dangerously to the side, clinging on in all efforts to take it down. However with a powerful rear and whip of it's head, Minkah found himself smashing into the ground, and before he could even move, the beast landed and kicked off the ground, its front hooves soaring over Sudi as he tried to run to Minkah's side. Yet, it's backlegs drew up short, and in front of Minkah's wide eyes, the tremendous might of the beast clipped both hooves into the hunter's frame, one to his head, the other to his shoulder. The last sight Minkah saw before sliding out of consciousness was the body of his best, closest and most loyal friend fall to the ground, not even attempting to move.

When the hunter finally awoke, it was to the hopeful faces of his comrades, but Sudi was no where to be seen. Fortunately Minkah had only caused himself slight concussion when he had crashed to the ground, so it didn't take too long for the striped tom to recover. The same could not be said however, for Sudi, as the two knocks to the head had smashed in his skull and shoulder. Needless to say, his best friend was dead. And Minkah could only blame himself for it. While others tried to say it was a freak accident, the Bengal tom knew he had had a choice, and he had chosen wrong.

It wasn't too long until Minkah was back into his usual hunting routine, and when Sudi's family were lost in a particularly bad plague, the tom found himself taking premises of the house. It felt awkward and even more wrong to be taking the house which should of rightfully been Sudi's. After the accident the Head hunter decided the team wasn't ready for him to leave just yet, and so it was another half a year before the leader decided that despite the tom's mistakes, the striped Bengal was ready to lead as Head hunter, now that he had learnt to take down prey with his own strength.

Minkah does well as the leader, and hasn't made a mistake such as that again. And yet he might again as his heart has bottled up the incident in an attempt to act like it never happened. However whenever hunting he still feels unnatural having to hunt without a partner, and is still searching for one to make him complete.

Other:
Likes:

Hunting – This wasn't hard to figure out, but the tom loves the rush he feels during a hunt. From days of stalking tracks in the sand to the final blow of a worn down antelope, the tom could and most likely will die happy while hunting.

Blood – It sounds gruesome, but the tom does enjoy the salty and warm taste of fresh blood from a kill, and if any so happens to get stained in his fur as such, he will not hesitate to lick it out due to the taste.

Feathers – Strangely enough the tom adores feathers. From Nile ducks to Osteriches, the fluffy wispy fronds of fur are his favourite toys and to keep him entertained you would only need a feather on a windy day. Even in the middle of a particularly heavy sleep, if a feather wakes him up (which happens a lot since he got a lot of feather cushions) he will spring and pounce on it till it's rightfully 'dead'.

Ife - Minkah loves his little sister, who even if they are from the same litter, he treats as little due to the fact she does slightly depend on him. He adores her as she stayed behind with him and whenever not on duty or sleeping, can be found hanging around with Ife. (Using her sheep as a bed of course)

Dislikes:

Cowards – Any cat who can't seem to even stand on their own four paws don't deserve attention in his opinion, and it's only his nature to pick at them. If you have to do something, go do it. The longer you spend worrying, the likely you'll die. Not from whatever you're scared of though. Minkah will come hunt you down.

Dramatic cats – If you hurt yourself then get over it. If someone knocked into you, you make them apologize and move on. If you lose a catch or a good deal, well you get the idea. This tom thinks about being sensible and living in the present. No hanging around the past, and no attention seeking either.

Trouble makers – He's starting to sound like an old grumpy cat, but if a cat can't follow orders he is useless despite how great this cat might be. In his mind a good cat is a sensible one who does what is asked of them in return for what is expected. No more or less.
